This is the SC Class Assistant main menu:
Select Class:You select the active class at the top of the Main Menu (when you have more than one class, you'll want to use this
View Seating Chart will display a non-interactive seating chart.
Attendance Tracking, Homework Tracking, and Fire Drill Attendance each feature an interactive seating chart where the status can be marked. Previous days' entries and multiple day summaries are also viewable.
Behavior Tracking: Define your own behaviors to track, then use a seating chart to mark behaviors.
Edit Class let's you assign a class name or details (time, year, notes), Add or Edit Students (including importing your roster, setting student photos, moving students between classes, and deleting students), and Manage the Seating Charts. This seating chart menu may be documented elsewhere here.
Delete This Class will remove the class along with all associated students and seating charts.
Arrange the Order of the Classes lets you set the sorting order used to display classes on most screens (including the class selector on the main menu). It's basically a list of classes, but you hold the one you want to move then drag and drop it onto the target location where it will be inserted.
Toggle option to hide empty seats lets you decide if you want to hide "All" empty seats. If you only want to hide some empty seats, then from the customize seating chart layout options long-hold on an empty seat to delete that seat.
Choose A Custom Seating Chart Background and Reset to the default Seaating Chart background let you set an image which displays behind the seats (in the background) of the seating chart screens. I have run into some photos in my photo library which for whatever reason are not acceptable, so if one image does not work, try another.
You can back up your data to a local file or save it to a cloud service, such as Google Drive, iCloud, OneDrive, or MyCloud. These services can be accessed by other applications for further backup or transfer. The restore option will replace existing data with the data from the backup file.
Toggle whether to spread out seats lets you decide if you want the seating chart centered on the screen (the default) or if you want them spread out to fill the screen (if you use the spread out option, you may want to pinch to adjust the look so the seats fill the screen in the best way.)
Toggle Square vs. Round Photos - Adjust how Student Photos (which you can set when editing students, not when adding them because at that point there is no 'record' to tie the photo to) appear. The default may be Square photos, but some people prefer round and it is actual science (or so i'm told from talk radio) that sharp edges (i.e squares/rectangles) can raise anxiety while rounded corners or round shapes promote more relaxation. Also, for this reason most menu options have been given rounded corners.
The third page of the main menu has :
-A Quick Grade Calculator: Select the numeber of Questions to find out how number of wrong answers maps to score, great as a quick reference when grading quizzes and tests.
-Toggle Pack Seats Tighter lets you decide how much spacing (one of two options) is between each seat when the seats aren't spread out. While this mainly affects row-column layouts, it also affects the grid when using snap to grid.
-The "App Store Required" Privacy Policy and Terms of Use (EULA) are linked to (via an internal web viewer) on the web.
-You can move between the three pages on the main menu either using the "Previous Page" / "Next Page" buttons, or you can just swipe left and right.
Here is a look at the Edit Class screen - On the first screenshot, if you change the name of the class, make sure to click "Save changes to this class". There is a "Manage Seating Chart" button that brings up the Seating Chart menu (documented on this page), and a list of students (which you can tap on the names to edit, or at the bottom is a select-to-edit-by-seating-chart options) and a student count, below that is an Add Students button, and below that are some class details you can set (like time, school year, and a freeform notes area), if you change any class details be sure to click "Save changes to this class" to confirm you want to keep them.
On the right is the Add Students screen, the only required entry here is one of "First Name, Last Name, or Short Name", everything else can be blank. At the top is an import roster button (imports from CSV or plaintext file, with a button below that which takes you to the website support page with documentation on csv format). Be sure to click +Add This Student after each individual student you add, and like on the Edit Class screen, there is also a list of students here, in case you want to go back and correct a student name while you're adding students. Above the list you also get a student count.
Before Taking Attendance, Fire Drill Attendance, or Tracking Homework Submissions, you will be prompted with a screen where you select either (1) Today - you're tracking today's attendance/homework, (2) you can slide and select any day there is prior data for and hit the "Selected Date" button, or (3) you can view a multi day summary. For Fire Drill attendance, Multi-Day summary is not an option at this time as it didn't seem useful.
These interactive seating charts allow you to tap seats to change color codes. The key is at the bottom and if there is room you'll see the key text alongside the student names in the seat, with values used in the multiday summary. A non-interactive seating chart is also available. On the menu on the top right you can toggle between "Pinch to Zoom" or "Pinch to Adjust Font Size" - Similar ideas but the options let you fine tune the look for your eyes.
The multi-day summary prompts you to select a date range for the summary, as well as the number of days in the summary, and then it shows the summary in table form, which you can print from the top right menu:
Pick a Student at Random will display the name of one student chosen semi-randomly (and the student's photo, if available, though that can be turned off on the top right menu), tap the bottom button to select another, it excludes absent students and avoids picking on students more than others (it uses a daily fair partipcipation policy). The progress bar below the name shows the current selection round.
Group Students at Random allows you to choose whether to include absent students and choose between setting the number of students per group or the number of groups. It generates, prints, or copies groups for use in other apps (these options are on the top right menu) and saves them for future reference. You can also edit groups by dragging and dropping student names.
You set up the seating chart from the Manage Seating Chart button on the Edit Class screen. Seaeting charts start as row-columns format, you can adjust the number of columns or rows, and even customize the layout (with default snap-to-grid settings on top right menu of layout screen) or delete individual empty seats if you have extras (by long-holding them on the customize layout screen), there is also an option to randomize seating chart, reassign seats (move students between seats), or even RANDOMLY reassign seats if that's what you're after:
